Mzinga Monitor - April 2009

Mzinga.com  |  Events  |  Blogs

Welcome to the April issue of the Mzinga Monitor—our monthly newsletter covering social media and learning news and topics, as well as updates and previews of Mzinga programs and events.

The Importance of Moderating Teen Websites

Luckie Daniels and her company, The Little Pink Engine, recently launched A Stroke of Pink (ASOP), a social media experience that connects young women between the ages of 13 to 21 who desire a career in the fashion industry. The site, moderated by Mzinga, is a place for young women to share their ideas, talents, hopes and dreams among fellow community members and industry professionals.

Mzinga is policing the site for any predator presence and is moderating content, text, message posts and uploaded photos to ensure that interactions comply with ASOP's established guidelines.

Building a More Interactive Website

Playboy.com, the digital presence of Playboy Enterprises, recently introduced interactive content and multimedia to their new site. Playboy.com hopes to establish a more active dialogue with users to further customer loyalty, broaden its market reach and subscriber base, and create greater value for online advertisers.

Various Mzinga social media applications, including discussions, article comments, ratings, reviews, and social profiles have been embedded throughout the Playboy.com site, enabling users to connect and interact with Playboy writers and each other on news and topics of interest, and to post and read reviews of the best new movies, music, video games, places to travel, and more.

The Future of Learning & Knowledge Management

When discussing the future of learning, there are many advocates and descriptors, but not enough concrete definitions. In a recent article in Training + Development, Dave Wilkins discusses the future of learning.

Knowledge management is at a crossroads with the introduction of Web 2.0 technologies. In the latest Talent Management magazine, Dave also looks at how knowledge capture can impact organizations' relationships with clients, prospects and the public.

Live Webinar: Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 3:30 PM ET

Within the next two years, more than 60% of Fortune 1000 companies will launch an online community—and according to analysts, an astounding 50% will fail to manage them as an agent of change, ultimately eroding any potential business value.

Developing a comprehensive community management and moderation strategy is essential for ensuring your community's success and reducing the risk of inappropriate online conversations that could otherwise negatively impact your business and your brand.

Join Mzinga community consultant Isaac Hazard for an in-depth examination and discussion on all aspects of community moderation, including key best practices on managing online communities.

Additional session highlights will include:

  • Developing effective community member guidelines and policies for appropriate content
  • Ensuring a welcoming and risk-free online community environment, without hindering member activity and discussions
  • Multiple moderation techniques, from proactive monitoring to content seeding and post-moderation—and practical advice on which approach to take
  • Featured business cases that explore how leading brands are using moderation to support and grow their community initiatives and membership

Social Learning Objections

Join us for this free online session

If you've seen any of the recent research on the future of learning, you're likely aware that social learning is fast becoming a relevant component of a more effective learning strategy. But as is common when new, innovative approaches emerge, convincing management to take the leap to this new dimension can be another story.

Join Mzinga product strategist Dave Wilkins, along with noted social learning thought leader and industry speaker Kevin Jones, as they discuss the top objections to social learning and how you can overcome them with solid arguments, bullet-proof reasoning, and hard ROI numbers that will help you convince even the most reluctant member of your C-level executives.

Some of the core objections that will be addressed during this interactive session include:

  • How do we maintain control over the content?
  • How do we ensure the content is accurate?
  • If we allow people to network, how do we stop them from socializing all day?
  • How do we measure success with social technologies?
  • What does social learning have to do with training?
